WHAT DO OTHER SAY? "Someday the medical profession will wake up and realize that unresolved emotional issues are the main cause of 85% of all illnesses. When they do, EFT will be one of their primary healing tools... as it i s for me." - Eric Robins, MD "I am thrilled with EFT as a tool for helaing in my practice. I have never come across such a gentle and comprehensie healing technique to help clients relieve their suffering. EFT is simple yet graceful, gentle yet thorough, and I am deeply grateful that I am able to use it to lead others to more vibrant health and emotional fulfillment." - Carol Look, LCSW, DCH "I have a real phobia about driving in heavy traffic areas, especially with ramps that are elevated. I tried the tapping and drove on an expressway, with ease and comfort, that normally I would have avoided like the plague. That convinced me!" - Pat Pietri "In my 50 years as a practicing psychiatrist, EFT has proven to be one of the most rapid and effective techniques I've ever used." - Henry Altenberg, MD, USA
"I have found EFT to be so useful that it has become the centerpiece of my practice. I have used it successfully on a long list of emotional issues, including paranoid schizophrenia. Interestingly, when the emotional issues subside, physical ailments often enjoy simultaneous relief. I have seen this with the symptoms of fibromyalgia and MS as well as for swallowing problems, back pains, hemorrhoids, acidity, breathing problems, stomach pain, vaginitis, headaches, joint problems and stomach problems." - Sonia Novinsky, Ph.D. Brazil
The frequently asked questions have been compiled and updated from various sources including the website for the World Center for EFT and FAQ answered by the founder of EFT, Gary Craig.
The secret is in the Discovery Statement: "The cause of ALL negative emotion is an imbalance in the energy system". Please notice that it is all inclusive. This includes fears, phobias, anger, grief, anxiety, depression, traumatic memories, PTSD, worry, guilt and all limiting emotions in sports, business and the performing arts. That's a comprehensive list and covers just about every restrictive emotion we can experience.
Differently stated, this means that all these negative emotions have the same cause....an electrical "bzzzt" in the body’s energy system. It also means...they can all be relieved in a similar manner.
As the cause of almost 85% of physical ailments is unresolved emotional issues, it stands to reason that if the emotional elements are relieved, a corresponding relieve in physical symptoms are noticed. ARE EFT'S RESULTS DUE TO EITHER PLACEBO EFFECTS OR DISTRACTION?
No! Placebo effects require some belief in the process. However newcomers to EFT are often very sceptical, yet we still see results.
Although EFT may appear to be distracting, it will not work if you are, in fact, distracted. Throughout the EFT procedure, you are required to "tune in" to the problem by repeating a reminder phrase. HOW LONG DO THE RESULTS LAST?
Emotional healings are almost always long lasting. This is particularly true if you address the emotional events as specifically as possible. If a given emotional problem does appear to "come back," however, the experienced practitioner will look for three possible reasons: - What has "come back" is simply a related issue (aspect) that wasn't addressed in the first place. - The original problem was addressed too globally and thus only partially neutralized.
- The cause of the problem is due to a sensitivity (an energy toxin) to something you ate, drank,
Physical healings are often impressive and long lasting as well, but are more likely to re-emerge than emotional issues. Often a physical ailment (headache, backache, stomach upset, etc.) acts as a physical manifestation of an emotional issue. Experienced EFT'ers see consistent evidence of this. Thus what appears to "come back" is simply the same physical ailment reacting to a different emotional issue.
ARE THERE ANY NEGATIVE SIDE EFFECTS OR ABREACTIONS?
EFT is safe, easy to apply and non-invasive. By comparison to almost any other process, EFT is quite gentle and rarely has any serious side effects. It is often used instead of other procedures, such as EMDR, TIR or "Flooding" because of its gentle nature.
Consider, for example, that....
- Therapists are routinely teaching the process to their clients for use at home.
It is estimated that EFT enthusiasts using these procedures to help others exceeds 100,000 and it has probably been applied over 1 million times worldwide. Less than 1% adverse reactions have been reported, usually in clients with severe emotional and psychiatric conditions.
However, this does not mean that you will not experience adverse side effects. As with any other therapy, you are required to take complete responsibility for your own emotional and/or physical well being both during and after sessions. A trained EFT practitioner will guide you professionally through these techniques. WHAT PREVENTS EFT FROM WORKING?
If you are a living, breathing human being, EFT should work for you. Occasionally, the targeted issue is approached to globally which results in ineffective relief. In rare cases, energy toxins such as perfumes or certain foods produce an allergic reaction in an individual’s energy system and retard, or temporarily reverse treatment. A skilled EFT practitioner will spot these blocks and be able to treat you effectively. While not perfect, EFT has an extraordinarily high success rate of well above 85%, even when used by beginners.
CAN I TREAT MYSELF?
Absolutely, and with a likelihood of a high success rate. EFT is a wonderful self-help technique and is taught during treatment. If you are motivated, emotionally stable and use good judgement in the problems you address with EFT, you should have good success. It is important, however, to know your limits as it can be difficult to be both patient and doctor. EFT practitioners are objective, have the necessary experience for successful treatment and will guide you to the correct application of EFT for your situation during sessions.
CAN EFT BE USED FOR CHILDREN?
Yes, usually with superb results. Since children are less critical than adults, they have less a need to understand the inner workings of the energy system and can therefor allow the treatment process to unfold more naturally. EFT is very safe and effective with children. CAN EFT BE COMBINED WITH OTHER TECHNIQUES?
Yes! EFT is very flexible. Many people blend EFT with other healing techniques and report enhanced results. Hypnotherapists use EFT while their clients are in trance. EMDR specialists inject EFT into the EMDR process. Massage therapists merge it into their work as do Reiki practitioners, MD's, acupuncturists, chiropractors and healing practitioners of all descriptions.
It was designed so that beginners could learn it easily but it was also designed with all the elements necessary for true mastery. There have been many spectacular healings using EFT alone.
However, the intention of healing of all kind is to be in support of, never instead of proper medical care.
DOES EFT WORK ON________?
Experienced EFT'ers realize that EFT has potential use for just about every known physical and emotional ailment. This is not apparent to newcomers, however, and thus one of the most frequently asked questions about EFT takes the form.... Does EFT work on __________?
You can fill in the blank with almost any ailment. Examples have been....
- Does EFT work on knee pain?
And so on...with a list of thousands of ailments.
The answer to all these questions is... Yes! There is a high likelihood that, properly applied, EFT will either improve or completely eliminate the problem.
That does NOT mean, however, that EFT has been perfected to the point where it can cure everything. On the contrary, there is still a lot to learn about its uses... AND... sometimes the results will depend on the "sophistication of the EFT application".
It DOES mean that improvements have been seen in such a wide variety of ailments that it is no stretch to conclude that its uses are nearly universal....although not yet perfect across the board.
This One-Procedure-Fits-All feature of EFT brings quizzical looks to the faces of most newcomers because they have been conditioned to think that, for each ailment, there is a specific remedy.
Thus we take Tylenol for a headache and Prozac for depression. Along the same lines, there are specific medications (remedies) for everything from arthritis to high blood pressure to Anxiety to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. There is even competition among advertisers for which remedy is the best for a specific ailment (Tylenol vs. Advil, for example).
So, newcomers become confused when they hear that the same EFT Basic Recipe that is used for back pain is also used for grief, trauma, anger, carpal tunnel and everything else. This notion doesn't fit with their previous conditioning.
Nonetheless, that's how it is.
One point of clarification: While the same mechanical Basic Recipe is used for all ailments, the APPROACHES to the various problems can differ widely. There is an "art of delivery" which is necessary for complicated cases and this involves finding core issues and aspects as well as appropriate reframing and other artistic uses of this flexible tool.
P.S. EFT is not meant as a substitute for other healing procedures (even though it often does the job by itself). Rather, you are encouraged to use EFT with the guidance of a qualified health professional.
EFT IS OBVIOUS! SO WHY WASN'T IT DISCOVERED MANY DECADES AGO?
EFT should have been discovered 50 years ago and should be as common today as aspirin. Yet, despite its unmistakable clinical results, it still meets with resistance from certain scientists and from others who cling to conventional methods.
We learn in high school chemistry class that the building blocks of ALL matter (including human bodies) are ATOMS. No one disputes this fact. Nor does anyone dispute that atoms are made of ENERGY.
Einstein further emphasized this point with his Theory of Relativity wherein he developed the famous formula, Energy = Mass times the speed of Light squared.
In simple terms this means that physical matter (including the human body) is MADE OF ENERGY. Thus, even though the human body may appear to be solid, its foundation is made of energy. This simple fact is one of the most universally agreed upon findings in the scientific world. It's acceptability ranks right up there with the laws of gravity.
However, for reasons known only to the cosmos, the Western healing sciences have ignored it. How short-sighted! Instead, they continue to regard the human body as a physical entity and thus walk right by its energy roots. They treat the body as a bag filled with body parts and chemicals.
Thus their methods involve the repair and replacement of body parts (surgery) and the "correction" of body chemistry by other chemicals (drugs).
Many useful things have come from this conventional approach. In fact, we are all very glad it is around and respect those diligent scientists and healing practitioners that have used this approach. In the words of EFT Founder, Gary Craig, "if I had a burst appendix, for example, I would enthusiastically volunteer myself for the surgeon's table".
However, for the Western healing sciences to ignore the well established fact that the body, at its core, is made of energy is like wearing glasses that only permit vision up to 10 feet. EFT'ers are offering these conventional folks a pair of longer range glasses and, gradually, the skeptics are trying them on. Those among them that have "seen" cannot unsee and thus are adding to the snowball of education that is bringing these procedures to the public.
Anyone who has been around the competent use of EFT for even a few weeks has surely seen many instances where dramatic progress has been made on both the physical and emotional levels WITHOUT ANY CONVENTIONAL METHODS BEING USED. Many of these results completely violate the beliefs inherent in the Western healing sciences. For example, how is it possible, under conventional Western definitions....
- For Post Traumatic Stress Disorder to fade completely without psychiatric drugs?
Yet EFT'ers perform these "miracles" daily....as well as hundreds more. The World Center for EFT web site is full of such evidence. Western healing practitioners are hard pressed to explain these results except to use a "placebo" or a "spontaneous remission" or a "mind over matter" explanation. They cannot be explained through the current paradigm. Accordingly, what is needed is another way to look at the human body...another paradigm. The conventional explanations obviously need help.
And what more logical choice is there than to follow Albert Einstein and the most fundamental scientific findings of the last century. Why don't scientists view the body as an energy configuration and see where that leads? EFT'ers have been doing this for years and the clinical evidence is mountainous. It is pointing to the obvious and the results are often jaw dropping....even when performed by lay citizens.
It is not meant to forsake the many conventional findings that have brought us unmistakable healing benefits. Rather, it is suggested that we unlock the doors to the obvious and blend EFT with the best of our other healing achievements. The results should take healing to an entirely new (and affordable) level.
